English as a second language.
Who’s the best?
Heavily armoured and bearded… Well, historically.
In general, one part of the world dominates…
But they aren’t numero uno…
According to most reputable publications, the Scandinavian states dominate the “English as a second language” list.
However, most publications also hold one other nation at the top of the list. They are also the tallest on the planet.
Yep, the almighty Dutch!
But, how did they achieve this?
An international economy,
starting young and subtitles!
Now, what do these countries have in common?
All these countries are small. This means that they, more often than not, they have international economies. This increases the demand for English as it is the international language. 😇
Many of these states also refuse to dub video content, choosing to add subtitles in their native languages instead.
Kind of brilliant really and a wonder why other states haven’t been doing this, especially when one considers that it would be a relatively inexpensive way to achieve English fluency.
Food for thought Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein! 😉
